Ravindra Jadeja Just Entered Kapil Dev’s Elite Club — But Has He Become India’s Greatest Test All-Rounder?

Ravindra Jadeja has entered one of the most exclusive clubs in Test cricket history. During the first Test between India and Sri Lanka in Galle on August 17, 2026, Jadeja claimed his 350th Test wicket, becoming only the fifth Indian bowler to reach the landmark. But the bigger story was waiting behind that number.

Jadeja had already crossed 4,000 Test runs in November 2025. By reaching 350 wickets in Galle, he became only the fourth cricketer in Test history to combine 4,000-plus runs with at least 350 wickets. The three players who had done it before him were Kapil Dev, Ian Botham and Daniel Vettori.

Jadeja therefore has not merely reached another statistical milestone. He has entered a category occupied by some of the greatest all-rounders Test cricket has produced.

What exactly did Jadeja achieve in Galle?

The milestone came during India’s first ICC Test against Sri Lanka at Galle. India had posted 462 in the first innings, with Devdutt Padikkal making 167, while Sri Lanka were eventually dismissed for 284. Jadeja played an important role in India’s bowling effort, finishing with 3 for 57 as he and Manav Suthar combined for seven wickets. His third wicket of the innings took him to the historic 350-wicket mark.

Galle is traditionally associated with high-quality spin bowling, and Jadeja’s ability to operate effectively on turning pitches has been a major part of his Test value. His milestone therefore arrived while he was actively contributing to India’s attempt to control the match rather than simply collecting a ceremonial wicket.

Jadeja becomes the fifth Indian to reach 350 Test wickets

There is another important statistic attached to the achievement. Jadeja became only the fifth Indian bowler to take 350 Test wickets.
